SHIPS is the Seismic Hazards Investigation of Puget Sound, a large, collaborative seismic experiment conducted in NW Washington and SW British Columbia in March of 1998 (see map). The primary object of SHIPS is to image structures (in 2- and 3-D) that may be associated with earthquake activity in the region. The experiment focussed primarily on the recording of data in Washington, but was extended into Canada to allow the recording of multichannel near-vertical incidence data in the Strait of Georgia and Juan de Fuca Strait, and onshore-offshore wide-angle data at sites primarily along the Strait of Georgia and on southern Vancouver Island
